VERY FRIENDLY FIRES!
The Warehouse Project is Manchester's foremost club/live night and last Friday saw the turn of the Mercury Award nominated FRIENDLY FIRES (http://www.wearefriendlyfires.com/) to satiate the heathens and hedonists who lined up and crammed into the damp, dingy, decibel-tastic arches that play host to this most respected biweekly gig (which included me after Edd very kindly chucked me on his guest list at the last minute...cheers Edd!).
After a much troubled and far lengthier than expected soundcheck, Edd Gibson (middle of pic) spared me a couple of minutes to tell me what the lads have been up to since the global explosion of their self-titled debut album! Edd was very cool indeed. Listen this Thursday, 7-9 @ www.frequencyradio.co.uk...

SNOW JOKE, NICO DROZ IS ON THE PISTE IN MANCHESTER (awful I know)!
That's me with Nico Droz, one of the sickest (no he's not ill, that's snowboarder for 'good') snowboarders on the planet...rather than those snowboarders who reside on other planets. Anyway, he was at CHILLFACTORE (http://www.chillfactore.com/) in Manchester with some of the Homies crew (yep that's them down there) Aymeric Tonin (left) and Pierre Rue (middle) promoting Snowworld Productions' new DVD 'Homies 2: Locked Outside' this week. They worked really, really hard all winter on this film and it's turned out to be a super cool jib fest harking back to snowboarding's 'skatepark' roots. Nico told me he was trying to capture all the good stuff about snowboarding...basically f*"!ing about in the snow with your mates and getting boozed afterwards, and he's defo done that...so check it out, alright!? I interviewed him for ChillFactore, and for
my mate Adam who is making his own boarding film, about UK riders and Chillfactore and all the exciting things that happen there (keep your eyes peeled, it will premiere later this year and will be very good...if you like that sort of thing!). They were all super cool guys and very impressive on the snow! Listen for some audio on this week's show. And while you're waiting, watch the teaser for Nico's new film....

BAR SCRAWL!
On the long journey to the gig, we stopped for refreshment at FONT BAR (http://www.fontbar.com/) and happened across these three young chancers. They'd spent 9 years hand drawing this impressive wall mural in the pub...OK it was 15 hours, but imagine the cramp in your hand after that! In the pic are (l to r) SIMON LEE, RYAN ROBINSON and SARAH MCKEVITT and they're all studying illustration at Salford Uni. If you fancy something a bit different on your living room wall, get in touch and we'll hook you up!

SWEET BILLY PILGRIM! They were nominated for the Mercury Music Award this year don't you know...for their very interesting music...which they make in Tim's (middle of pic) shed, at the bottom of his garden...with a dishwasher and some kids' toys...nice! We chatted to them, not in Tim's garden shed, but in their dressing room about 10 seconds before they went on stage at the Royal Northern College of Music, the 4th stop on their UK tour with Portico Quartet. Yep, it was awesome! The gig, not the chat...although the chat was pretty good too. Listen on this week's show...(http://www.myspace.com/sweetbillypilgrim)

WHIP-LASH...Serious Tom and Ben went on the beer with The Whip before their gig at 53 Degrees Club Bar this week. Well OK, it was just the one beer...a small one. But it made for a good pun and they did give us the beer...and some free tickets. Thanks The Whip! Listen this week, Thursday 7-9 @ http://frequencyradio.co.uk/
